Our First Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended our first meeting! I know we covered a lot of stuff, but all that information will help to make our future book club meetings better by allowing for some discussion on what you read.

Just a recap of what is required each week:
  • A Vocabulary page for each chapter
  • A Chapter Response for each chapter
  • A Role Sheet for each chapter
For next week, please make sure you read chapters 1 and 2 of Henry Huggins and journal any questions, thoughts, or ideas you have WHILE you're reading.

I'll "see" you next Wednesday at 10:30!

Henry Huggins by Beverly Cleary

"Henry Huggins feels that nothing very interesting ever happens to him. But from the moment a stray dog in the drugstore begs for a taste of his ice-cream cone and downs it in one gulp, everything is different. Henry names the dog Ribsy and decides to keep him. Before Henry even reaches home with Ribsy he spends all of his money, gets kicked off three buses, and enjoys a hair-raising ride in a police car. And that's only the beginning of Henry's exciting new life!" (Summary from Amazon)

I am looking forward to reading Henry Huggins in our reading group beginning Wednesday, December 4, 2013. We will meet every Wednesday in December until Winter Break from 10:30 - 11:30 am.

The following will be expected of every student who chooses to participate in our book group:
  1. Borrow or purchase Henry Huggins prior to our first meeting.
  2. Keep a reading notebook/folder/file. You will use this to:
    • write down questions or thoughts you have during reading.
    • keep your papers organized.
  3. Come to each meeting prepared. This means you have:
    • read the assigned chapters.
    • completed your vocabulary page(s).
    • completed a "Chapter Response" for each chapter.
    • completed at least one "Role Sheet" for each chapter.
  4. Be an active reader and participant.
On the top of this page you will see the different tabs: "Henry Huggins Vocabulary", "Chapter Responses", and "Role Sheets". Within each of these tabs are document links that will take you to each document. You will need to complete each chapter's vocabulary sheet, a response sheet for each chapter, and a role sheet for each chapter. You can decide which specific sheets you would like to complete for each chapter, and they can be the same or different each time.
